Last week I caught these two American coots in a struggle and very quickly snapped off a dozen pictures. A birdwatcher nearby said it was two males fighting over the female who watched; the winner and the "prize" quickly swam away. I do not know if that analysis is correct; I had never seen the behavior before. In any case, I liked the image very much, and I set about to make it look more presentable. I found that to be quite difficult. I did make a variety of adjustments, but, obviously, I can use help on this one. Should I make the red eyes brighter, is the overall image bright enough and sharp enough, do you see noise, etc.?

    Hi Wendell,
I like the action captured here. I would crop tighter, making it into a pano. This will put all of the attention and focus on the event at hand. The subjects are in the middle of the frame; it works here using the pano crop. The water is sloped to the left; it needs a little bit of CW rotation. The subject could use selective sharpening around the eye area. as far as noise goes, I really don't see any. You can also try lightening the water just a tad to see how it looks. Exposure wise, its fine with me...

HI Wendell Agree with Gus !! Regarding the eyes those birds do have red eyes !

My suggestion is to clone one for another bird in the sun, if you just make them redder they seem to look odd. Best method for cloning is quick mask.

Have seen them fight often and it is a breeding behavior !!
