P.S. Needing help here folks, the image on my monitor looks absolutely nothing like this one, does it loose something in the conversion and post, thank you all for the advice or help you may render.

    Nice looking bird Bill

Not sure what you are doing for the conversion, might want to check the tutorial. If you need any help please let me know. As presented looks kind of funky, the bird looks sort of flat and the bottom has no detail in the shadows. It is a good pose with a great head angle, good colors on the bird and very pleasing water bg!!!

Saw some of them this afternoon but none with the same color !! Let me know after you check the tutorial to compare steps !!

I like the pose a lot and the ruffled feathers are great Bill. I really do not have a clue about the reason of your problem. Did you performed the shadow/highlight filter in a great amount? Hope that you can fix the problem and post this image with a better look. If you need some help just drop me a PM

I'd love to see this with the image conversion issues worked out because I think this could be a beautiful image. The iridescent feathers are quite a tease. I also like the preening pose with his bill on top of the feathers. I do think a little more room at the bottom would be good to add space for the virtual legs. I think I see the foot through the water but it looks tight.

Great subject, cool pose, and fantastic light.

This would be a perfect comp as a vertical.

The processing really hurts it, I hope you can get the problems sorted Bill.

Bill, I apologize for the delay in reposting your image :o but I have been really busy.
The file original file that you sent to me looks great and worked on it using a selective processing technique. In other words, I selected different parts in the image and processed then using different techniques. I think that this image has the following "key" areas:

    - the highlights in the bill
    - the glossy, coopery feathers in the shoulder
    - the body of the ibis
    - the BG

I greated several copies of the image in layers then, I selected in each one of the layers, the area that I wanted to work and delete the rest of the image.

In the "highlights layer" I deleted all the image but the bill, in the "glossy layer" I selected the shoulder of the bird and deleted all the rest of the image, and so on.

Once I have my layer structure I apply a different process to each layer. In the highlighs layer I toned down the bill (using level adjustmet or the underexpose tool); in the glossy layer I enhaced the saturation; in the BG layer I toned down the water and in the "body layer" I worked on levels and color balance.

Sharpening, convert to sRGB and save for web

    Here is the result

Bil, thanks for your kind words :)Do not forget that you can do the same using very different techniques in PS like, in example, "Quick Masking".
