    I spotted this Green Heron as I was leaving Ding Darling Refuge on Sanibel Island.
    He was in amongst the mangroves. I used my Sony DSLR-A100 with a focal length of 500mm,exposure was 1/20,aperture of f/8.0,ISO 160 and flash was used. I haven't been too lucky up to now to get this close to one.

    I like the bird and pose. Green herons were a nemisis bird for me a long time too!
    My biggest gripe is the water looks downright filthy! Is that really the water color or is it the reflection of something?

    Congratulations on your capture John. I find this crop a little tight and I don't recall ever seeing water this colour. If you have an opportunity for a lower angle next time try it.

    the water is stained from the mangroves. I couldn't get any lower. He was deep in the mangroves and I couldn't get any closer or lower without laying down in the water, it is only inches deep and down a slope from the road. I could ease the crop some.
