    I captured this image on an overcast, ligthly foggy day. Perfect I thought for capturing details in a black bird. I didn't want to push the ISO any higher but I would have liked a bit more shutter speed since this was hand held.

    Great detail Tim! I think there are 2 areas that will help this image. One is the crop; I would remove some canvas on the left and add some on the right. The bill is too close to the right edge of the frame. The other thing I would do is adjust your black point; to my eye the blacks could easily stand a bit more blackening. Here's a repost with a 5-second Levels adjustment.

    I think this is one of the better Coot portraits I've seen. I agree with Doug about the crop, and the level adjustment is icing on the cake. Nice Work Tim.

    Excellent done! I love all the detail and especailly the color of the bill, very easy to blow. The soft light helped you :)

    Lovely detail, and those whites on the bill are always difficult to expose correctly, but you have excellently here. Well done.
