Canon XT, 70-200 + 2x, ISO 200, f5.6
Saw this guy as a storm was brewing and got off two quick hand held shots before he flew. This is cropped about 75%. I removed a leaf above his head and one below. Would love to have it sharper, but love the soft light with the dark sky.
Very dramatic with the dark sky and warm colours of the bird. The lack of detail and sharpness detract from the image - not sure if this is a crop issue or a motion issue - unclear what shutter speed you used - possibly boosting ISO to 400 would have been an option if shutter speed was limited. A higher shooting position would have improved the view of the bird but lost your dramatic BG. Thanks for sharing and looking forward to more of your images.
The dark sky is striking and I like the composition, but the bird is very soft and lacks detail as Tony mentioned. All good advice above. Looking forward to seeing more of your images.
Hi David, These guys and gals are too good; all that you needed was a ladder and a tripod. Nice clean perch and image but portraits like this must be sharp to be successful.
ps: With a longer lens (on a tripod) you could have moved much farther back and reduced the angle of inclination.
