I'd like to say Hello! to everyone. Also congratulations for the wonderful images you are all showing here.
Below is a small contribution to this forum and my first published photograph.
It's a female redstart looking very curious and inquisitive at it's partner (which was singing from a neighboring tree).
I just loved the setting and the beautiful light filtered through the leaves.
Hope you like it.
Nature photography is still very much new to me (I've only started last year) and I appreciate any form of feedback.
Thank you
Welcome to BPN, Bogdan. Lovely first post with a really nice posture. The BG is great. A slightly higher shooting position or waiting until the head was less tilted away from you would have imnproved the pose a little. My main concern is the strong green colour cast which is overpowering the nice warm, tones of the plumage. I am unfortunately on an uncalibrated monitor at work with no access to PS. I will relook at this at home this evening and try a neutralised version. Looking forward to more of your images.
My first time posting an image...not sure if I did it right. If it's not there I posted some caste removal... After I removed the caste I noticed some jpeg artifacts in the backround and smoothed them out.Thats why the backround is a bit different.
Welcome to BPN Bogdan! I really like the sharpness and the soft green BG. Agree about the color cast. The head angle is less than ideal; I'd like to see the bird looking at the viewer. Look forward to many more of your image posts.
I was aware of the cast as the light was filtered by leaves, but missed it completely when editing. Thank you for pointing that out.
@Dmills
Your version looks better than mine, but now there's a slight reddish cast on the bird. I guess the ideal solution is somewhere midway.
The head turn has got me thinking as well. On one hand I really liked the story behind the expression (curiosity over it's partner singing) , but on the other the subject of the bird attention is not in the frame (thus not apparent to the viewer).
Your input made it more clear to me so thank you again.
I have an entire series of images with this lovely birds. I'll post others soon.
opened your image on my laptop to get a colour managed version - a neutralised version removed some of the lovely green from the BG so I masked the correction to the bird and perch
Welcome to BPN Bogdan, and what a lovely post! Tony's repost is the best of the bunch and did a great job of removing the green color cast from the bird and perch while keeping the beautiful green of the bg true. The expression is cute, but since the male is not seen in the image, I would prefer a head turn more toward the camera. Choosing f/9 gave you a little extra dof which worked well here. Congratulations on your first published image, and I'm looking forward to more of your posts!
