I was just looking on ebay and was considering bidding on New in box D300 until I saw "Made in Thailand"
I thought They were all made in Japan?
Anybody know what's up with that? Jim

James,
That is correct.
I was one of the first is Florida to receive the D300.
Great camera.
The D700 is made in Japan. That IMO is only because the D3 is a Japan only Manufacture and they share many interchangeable parts.
The labor cost must not offset the additional inventory cost it would take to stock 2 locations, especially when the D700 will greatly out sell the D3.
Yes, the D300 is made in Thailand. The D3 is made in a low production facility at the Sendai Nikon factory. This is due to volume. The D300 sells almost 10X the amount of the D3. The D3 facility had just over 1000 employees and has a single shift. The Nikon Thai factory has 15,000 workers (before the current economic crisis) and made D300s around the clock in 3 shifts.

I don't think it makes any difference if it is made in Japan or Thailand. What matters is the manufactures standards and quality control. I am really happy with mine and I am sure I will get rid of it before anything happens to it. Cheers!
