Excellent image Jonathan I like the close to eye level view, beautiful bg and excellent detail on the bird Might only take a little form the left side? Like it a lot, fine image !!

I like almost everything here. Almost because IMO I feel the composition a bit unbalanced...too much space at left, and not enough at right. Great looking specimen, exposure and sharpness look good.
Yes it is natural, it is a field. The log was attached to a barbed wire fence which was on the edge of a ditch, the grass in the field was therefore completely out of focus.Originally Posted by Mike Lentz

This is pin sharp Jonathan, and very well exposed. Superb image.
Lovely soft light, BG, shooting angle and pose. I agree with Al and Dan re removing a bit on the left and maybe adding a little on the right (probablyto aim for the eye on a junction thirds). I would clean up the light halo along the dark edges but congratulations on a lovely image.

Wonderful head angle; the position of the body and the feet are perfect. I am however, with Daniel on the COMP. Pointing the lens a bit more to the right would have yeilded a much stronger image. With images like this, think in vertical thirds. 1/3 BKGR. 1/3 bird. And 1/3 tree. That does not exactly work here as the tree is so skinny but the 1/2 BKGR simply does not work. With the evenly toned BKGR fixing it would be easy.

Really beautiful subject, and the pose couldn't be better. Agree that adding a little on the right will improve your lovely image. Lovely capture.
