West Point Island, Falklands, just another portrait from the first landing on my Antarctica trip in Nov. It was raining a lot first.
But more photos from my Antarctica-S.Georgia-trip in Nov. on my blogg (if anyone is interested, go further down in it) http://brutusbloggar.blogg.se/
(there is a translation flag one can click on each blog-piece, even though the translations sometimes will be the opposite to what I wrote in Swedish - or just awkward)
and in coming newsletter from my web page http://www.brutusostling.com

Brutus,
This the kind of action and in your face composition I really enjoy.
I'm not much on cloning elements out of an image, however I find dodging and burning like we did in a chemical darkroom to be useful tools.
Have you considered burning in some of the lighter elements behind this beautiful bird?
Thanks for posting and hope to see you in the spring.
PS Don't spread it around, but we are working on a translation module for BPN!
Hi James,
yes, there are details in the whites, but when I downsize the photo I also have to sharpen it. And as you know, the sharpening (unsharp masque) burns out details (and when I am posting photos on the web at least I can't work as much as when I publish pics in a book in high-res - I am glad having an hour to be on the web) . Good idea to burn it to be more. I do agree with you totally about those old techniques from the B&W-darkroom. We are happy to have better tools now, we can choose between shadows, mid-tones and highlight areas to effect them.
Hope also to be seeing you in the Spring
best,
Brutus

Superb action image Brutus. I love the black/white contrast and the transparencies in the bill tip. Regarding the composition, I think that you can crop some room at the top because that part of the image adds very little to the overall composition. With more black room at the bottom to put a title it would be a great image for a book portrait. I also thik that you can rework the eyes to add more light and the saturation of the pink mouth can be increased. Very good job on this image, as always ;-)
