Taken during Alaska Bear Boat Trip, the day was rainy with heavy overcast. Have always thought the image is humorous. I know the image is not really sharp.

    Canon 1D Mark III
    Canon 500 f/4 IS with 1.4 extender
    1/80 f/9
    ISO 1000
    Manual mode
    WB auto

Is there a good program to help sharpen in RAW, I use downloader and breeze browser have the sharpen set on 4 for file conversion. Understand most of it is learning to take sharp images.

Hi Monte Like the action A slight different head positions would have made it even stronger

Would turn the saturation down a bit colors look a little funky

LightRoom will allow you to sharpen in raw but not sure that is the way I would do it. Sharpening wise I like using PhotoKit Sharpener. It has a capture sharpening which you will use at the start, then you have sharpening/blurring brushes and finally output sharpener.

Check in our learning resources for tutorials in sharpening !!

Great action, fantastic to see in person I bet!

I think a bit more shutter speed, 1/80th seems a bit slow for movement??

just curious as to why f/9. with a 500mm and the 1.4, you should have had enough dof at that distance for the shot. would have opened up all the way for as much ss as possible. agree with nonda! 1/80 aint much with all that length!!

Al, that's so funny. I just downloaded the free trial of that sharpener today!

I agree with Al that the colors are a bit wonky. I also think that F9 on a 500mm lens might not be quite enough to get you a fully sharp bear. Better to overestimate the aperture and go a little higher as you can always blur the BG in pp.

It sure is special moment though!

I appreciate all the possitive comments, am learning a lot in a short period of time. Hopefully I can remember to apply them in the field.

Hi Monte, I always love bear shots- Easy for everyone to stand back and say what you did or didn't do -it's a whole lot different trying to focus when your blood is rushing!! Good job- thankyou for sharing- looking forward to more
