    Default Love you Mom... Deer

Watching this fawn and doe interact was a really special experience in the bush this week, the fawn had been trying to suckle and mother kept pushing her away. The youngster then started licking Mom gently around the face and ears. I felt privileged to be there. 20D with 200 F/2.8L, F/8.0 @ 1/250 sec, ISO 800,+2/3 EC, manual exposure, about 80% full frame... I didn't want to steal Krishnans title for this shot but after looking at his I could find nothing else to describe this

Wow. That is just one of those rare moments where you know when you're photographing them you better get it right cause you are NEVER going to see that exact moment again.

The good news is...you got it right. :D

Your exposure with the dark deer and the light snow looks pretty good - I'd say the 2/3+ compensation was right on. The crop/composition is exactly right in my opinion. You've got the action right where it should be and nothing else. Fabulous.

One thought might be to check your contrast. I know it's snowing so that might be why the head of the mother deer looks a bit washed out but a small tweak might give it a little more pop. I'd also do a little selective sharpening/lightening on just the eyes of the baby. Catching the tongue out of its mouth? Priceless.

I hope the mom gave in and gave the baby what he wanted.

Very, very nice capture of a tender moment. All the technicals and composition look right on to me.

Witnessing this kind of interaction is what makes wildlife photography so rewarding. Getting the image is dessert. Congrats!

    Hi Wayne,

You have caught a very intimate moment. The tongue makes this one even better.

    Well done. Thanks for sharing.

    Wayne,
The repost looks better. You have captured a tender moment. The composition works for me. The falling snow adds a nice feel to the image. Well done.

I think the baby may have been eating the snow! Love it. You were blessed by upstairs with this one!
