    Default red "heronscape"

This image is from yesterday in the marshlands near Doñana National Park in Huelva. I was testing a 500VR and, instead of the fact that the day was really poor all the day, I am almost decided that this big glass is my next lens (by the way I am considering the selling of my beloved 300VR to finance the new lens. Anyone interested in a neat lens? ).
The red stuff around the grey heron is an species of "Arthrocnemun" very common in the salt marshes. This time of the year the arthrocnemun turns thir greens into reddish/purple.

Your comments, critics and suggestions are highly apreciated.

Very painterly and absolutely beautiful. The different tones of red in the BG give a sense of depth and the heron is the icing. Yu almost don't need him hehehe

The Heron pops from the BG so nicely in this, and what amazing colours captured Juan. Under normal cirumstances, I would say take off the LHS, but in this comp, the heron fits perfectly where he is. Great image.

The colorful setting really makes this sing- the heron really stands out well and I really like how the taller grasses frame the bird well. I like the soft even light too, a lovely image Juan.

I like your choice of pano-ish crop. Excellent habitat, and I love the vertcal strands of grasses on either side of the heron. I tried a +10 contrast boost in PS...it gave it alot of punch :-)

Love the colors, the crop, and the COMP. Either I am going blind or there are sharpness/image quality issues with the bird. I am not sure if the temporary problems are causing image size/image quality problems.... I know that my last post looked like rubbish but am not sure if it is a Photoshop problem or an uploading problem. Either of those or my reading glasses are very dirty...

I really like the composition and setting and like Daniel's idea to boost contrast a few points.

The bird looks a little soft to me as well Juan, but everything else looks good.

looks great to me Juan, showing 195 kbs... beautiful setting and somewhat different as we are used to seeing these birds knee deep in water.

Thanks a lot for your comments and suggestions. Much apreciated. Here is a repost following Daniel´s sugestion of contrast boosting and some color correction in the red channel (now I am happy with the result that looks more natural than in the original post. Yes, the color of that plant species is really outstanding).

Artie and Bill, regarding the softness of the bird it looks fine to my eye and it is sharp at 100% (in my repost I added a selective sharpening mask to the bird only).

    :)

This image is very easy on the eye! I like the sharpness of the bird in the repost, but the color in the original. Very nice composition. I would love to see a hi rez version.

    Like it!

    Hi,

espec. the re-posting let's it be a great image. I think the cropping works very well, and the birds is right positioned. The colours are nice. Good to have so much of the surroundings - they make the image.

I like it very much. No more to be said.
