excellent capture. The side light works here because the whole face and most of the body are lit by it.
Lots of detail in the plumage and nice eye contact.
What's the location?
Fabs nailed it. I love the light and the direct eye contact. Look like he is saying "Can someone help me fly please".
Thanks Fabs! The location is in the middle of Sweden near a town called Falun! This feeding location has been around for 20 years! They are feed with only road kills like white tales, moose and red fox.
Sorry if my English sucks...:)

magnus, nice picture, but that is not its stomach, not trying to be clever, its the shoulder of the other wing.thanks for sharing.
Excellent close up with wonderful details and side light. Extremely sharp. You did well with the eye contact and head angle.
Ahhh i think it´s called gizzard in english!
magnus,I am an x falconer, the first stomach as you say,in english is its crop.thanks.very nice photo.thanks.
Magnus... I really like this shot! The detail is great! By the way, it looks like the shoulder to me! Can you see how the edge of the leg goes over it! Either way, stomach or shoulder, the shot is still great! Thanks!
I like a lot the fantastic eye contact and the gloden side ñight. very well done Magnus
I really like the pose, eye contact and the light!
Great bird. Great light. Great sharpness. Great head angle. I think that we are seeing a full crop with just the edge of the far wing below it. The "pine needle??" on the bill is the only negative for me. Is this from a blind? Was the deer set out as bait? (I have no problem with that.)

Simply Amazing!! Liked the head angle, light and the pose.
Thank´s Artie! I feel great with all the nice comments:)
The "Pine needle" is the hair from the deer! And yes, the deer are set out as bait and it´s from a blind that have been there for 20 years. It started 20 years ago because the railroad took so many eagles when they sat and eat on the roadkills.
Now the eagles don´t go to the railroad nomore.
I hope you understand my english ;)

It seems that raptors distend their crops after they are eaten so that that they are visible from the outside. Here's a couple of BPN links to this in other raptors.

BTW, outstanding image! The lighting makes it for me.
Hi Magnus,
very nice image, the light works well.
Congratulations and thanks for this photo. Seem to be a good place and a good hide. I met Lars Dahlström (from INSJÖN, which must be close close to you) at the first trip to S. Georgia and Antarctica, he spread his humour and good laughs around the boat. This is the same hide near Leksand, as he told me about, isn't it? He had been there for a couple of days too.
All the best,
Brutus
Have a look again Christopher and then look at the posts I referred to in a previous post here. It's the crop/gizzard alright!
What most people think of as a shoulder on a bird is actually the hand. The shoulder joint is buried up in the feathers close to the body, and the elbow is as well.
I am no expert, but that is a full crop, not a shoulder., and an excellent shot.
Cool shot of a well fed bird! I banded hawks for 18 years and saw many like this.... distended crop. Once had one with the foot of a bird sticking right through the skin! Brought that one to a vet and it was on it's way in a couple days. Great idea feeding near the railroad... in CT we had a guy bring 2 dead eagles in from the railroad and said they had picked up at least 10 in the last year and we are small!
Interesting story about the leg and the crop! The railroad in Sweden doesn’t take the responsibility for the road kills! It’s sad...We haven’t so many eagles that you have in US and Canada!
Nice to get a comment from you Jim! You are a well known photographer
