    This is full frame as shot. Canon 40D, 300mm + 2x, f5.6, 400 iso, 1/500 on tripod.

Nice find and eye contact. The image looks very pixelated due to heavy compression (it is 24kB only). I'm sure that a version around 150kB would look much better. I would also sharpen the bird a bit more.

I agree with Axel. It's difficult to judge image quality with such heavy compression artefacts. Exposure, pose, and composition look good (but perhaps a bit off the top would be good). Which method did you use to resize for web? Perhaps we can help you repost a better looking version of this image as it seems like it has potential to be very good!

Don't know how I did it, but wondered why it looked so bad. Here it is with much less compression. Thanks again for your input. I am very new to this game.

Much better, David. I love the light, colours and pose. I agree with Dan regarding a crop off the top and would probably clean up the spider web. BG could stand a pass of NR. There has been a glitch with the site compressing (and at times resizing files) on upload so it may not have been anything you did wrong - it's just worth checking after you have uploaded and editing your post if it hasn't done what you want.
