    Default Hairy Woodpecker - male

I've been concentrating on our common resident birds lately (birds that do not migrate and spend the whole year with us.) Every spring-summer-fall they get pushed back while we concentrate on the migrants. This image was taken near a feeder setup. I scouted for the best bark-BG combo and then spread a bit of peanut butter in the crevices of the bark to attract the woodpeckers to that chosen spot. Here is one of the resulting images.

Canon 40D + 100-400L @285mm, aperture priority, eval metering, 1/250s., f/6.3, ISO 640, +0.3 EC (metred on bark and histogram checked), natural light, handheld.

Excellent feather detail Daniel, and this is super sharp, and you have exposed the colours, especially the blacks and whites perfectly. Great image.
