A huge crop shot at 800 ISO and very overcast. They are very flighty and don't come too close for a shot. Thought the exposure was not too bad but a fairly soft image. How did I do??? Need more feather detail in the whites??? Need a longer lens too!

Haha...I was thinking of posting some bufflehead shots I've got, too :)

Yeah, Jackie, it does look kind of soft. The details are there though. On my monitor it looks like there's a color cast. Not sure.

No, they don't come close to you. They swim pretty fast, too...at least those that saw me :D:D

Did great with the critique Jackie !!!

Huge crops are always a problem since the magnify any little problem You did well exposing and did come up with a good pose. A longer lens would be nice but you could try cropping less and placing the little guy in one of the corners !!!

    Hi Jackie:

Lovely bird, have never have seen one. Like Al's idea . . . .

Thanks for sharing your nice capture.

    Uncle Gus

BTW: A lot of your ducks, geese, etc should be showing up in our large water treatment ponds during the next few months.

Jackie, I like the color of the water- agree about needing more detail in whites-never saw one of these before so thanks for sharing!

Hey Jackie I feel your pain with Buffs. You got really good head colors, not easy to do at all, good going!

A beautiful duck Jackie. I also recommend less of a crop and proper placement in the corner. also might want to re-touch the eye with a little sharpening...good show...

I was debating whether to post it, but I was proud of the exposure. It seemed every time the lens would point at them they swam off in the other direction. The water is still open up here so hope to surprise them and get a closer shot. Desmond I hope you post some of yours. This is a very tough bird to photograph in many ways! Like your advice Al about smaller and swimming into frame. I guess that is what I will have to do if subsequent photographic attempts fail:)

Very good shot, we had some migrating through our area and they were so skittish could not get a decent image.

Great capture. I like the colors of the water and think your image is actually very sharp.
    I like it as presented.

Actually I did it before, but more to ask for advice rather than for critique:

I know you did Desmond, I thought you had some more waiting in the wings:). I am sure they would be much better than mine.

Some very nice detail here; especially like the black line on the wing. Well done despite the tough conditions.
