I have spent several days following these little birds around. This particular shot was taken with the 500mm plus TC though after time they have become quite confiding and I managed to get images without the use of a TC. This one was taken in the late afternoon light about 90 min before dusk.
Depending upon your comments I may be able to improve a little with the next Stonechat:cool:

Like the light and the BG. I would crop a bit off the top to put the bird higher in the frame and get the eye into a 'rule of thirds' location. There appears to be some motion blur of the head. Not sure what your shutter speed was; it would help if you could include your tech specs along with your photos.
