Havn't had time to visit BNP for several months, but now I am on my way home from two trips in the waters of Antarctica and sub-A., and one journey included the South Georgia. Had two different Swedish groups of amateurs and people with me and had some workshops/lectures. The journeys paid by the travel afent in Sweden.

Pretty powerful image. I like the details, angle, soft light and the carcass adds to it. Do you know what the petrel was eating there? Do you have a bit more room at the right? I look forward to images from your trip.

No, I don't have a bit more room to the right. Best Brutus - and no, I don't know, it was an image of just a couple of seconds, then I got a series of photos when he or she started to fly, but I like this more cruel one best.

Wow...great story shot Brutus, especially with that wing spread, and the great eye contact.

Very painterly look and incredible action, Brutus. We have missed your great work :(
Glad you are back, and such a good image to boot.
Agree on wanting a bit more room on the right, but hey, that is minor.

Very nice Brutus. The image shows very well the character of this magnificent bird. I like the warm tones and colour saturation. Agree that more room at the right would be ideal.

I visited Salisbury Plain on South Georgia. It is an amazing place. The petrel is eating a penguin; could be a Gentoo at that location (there are King Penguins there too but this does not look like one).

Just a note that the Giant Petrel is one of many species of seabird that is in serious decline because they are being caught on long-line fishing gear used to catch Chilean Seabass. Beware and avoid this beautiful fish if you see it in a restaurant. Tell ten others!

incredible image Brutus... a little more on the right might have been cool, and easily added in ps if needed., looks great as is to me., the editing really brings out the drama to the scene., I do wonder what the original looks like.

    Hi,

fact is there is not much editing, because it was originally a little bit underexposed, and I was shooting in JPG (because I didn't want to miss action after 8-11 shots in a row, you know when the Ds starts to download and you see the shots going by). Therefor I didn't add much contrast, if any.

    Best,

    BRutus

But I may add some more space if I'll use it - which I am pretty sure I will.

    Hi Magnus and others,

thanks for referring to my blog. I havn't tried the translating program before, but I clicked on the English flag and received a translation of each blog in less than ten seconds. But sometimes the translator program gave a very funny result, saying the opposite nearly. We should use it more often to let Swedish texts be available in other languages.
Thanks all for comments, the BNP has a great lot of knowledge spread around some of the world

Love the red carcass, the raised wings, the sharpness, and the perfect head angle..
