    I think the background is the result of the "hand of man". Image made at a North Shore (NJ) lake. I like the pose here. The background could have been a little cleaner but this was the choice of the cormorant and not me. :)

    Canon 50D; 300 2.8 lens w/ 2x TC; tripod-mounted

    1/640 sec @ f/10; ISO 400; -1/3 EV; Sunny WB; FL 600mm (effective FL 960mm)

    Hi Ed Agree is a neat pose but the angle and bg kills it !!!

    For these guys I like seeing the beautiful back feathers so moving form the back if possible might have helped.

    When I'm up against this setting I usually try to include more rather than trying to fight it !! I don't think there is any way you can isolate the bird !!! Did nail the exposure and its very sharp !!!

    I do like that pose. I think that Alfred has given a good critique about the BG. With no control over where they land....or stretch you make the most of it.....and hope that you get a better opportunity some other day.
