I was watching the birds flying around at the edge of my yard when a sharpie came flying in like a rocket and plucked this cardinal out of the bushes. I had to take the picture through the kitchen window so as not to frighten her off. I put the lens right up against the window and made a few images. I know it's a little blurry but thought it was interesting. Image made with Canon 40D and 100-400 Canon IS lens.

Hi Janet. Those kitchen window photos are tough when it comes to sharpness, although some additional sharpening will still help this image. I would crop from the bottom and the left to make the bird larger in the frame. I would also lighten the iris. Please try to include tech specs on all of your photo submissions. Thanks for posting!
Interesting scene, and the cardinal is clearly visible which is a very good thing. Unfortunately the "through the glass" technique seems to have degraded the image quality. After a few frames, I would have been tempted to lie on the floor and ever so slowly open a crack just wide enough to carefully stick the lens out :-) Many raptors do not flush as easily when seen with fresh prey (still have to be careful though...no sudden movements) Thanks for sharing this grim sighting.
Hi Janet! That is a very interesting captured! Too bad you were not prepared and had to shoot from the kitchen! Any how, you made a good effort and got your shot! Now that we mentioned kitchens.... that thing sticking out from the cardinal, looks like a kitchen knife! The poor thing looks like he was stabbed to death! :) Cheers!
Janet, you don't see this just every day. Good catch. Last year a Coopers caught a chipmunk in my backyard and he was so intense on eating him that I was SLOWLY able to open the window, remove a screen, set up my tripod and fire away. (SLOW was the key!)
