I was at a new exhibit at Metro Zoo in Miami yesterday and tried to take a photo of a new eagle they just obtained. Being backed away, thru a fence in and around the foliage and backlit, this is the best I could get, but was a neat looking bird. ISO 200, f/9.0, 1/200 sec, EF70-200mm f/2.8L, 173mm, Pattern Metering, Auto Exposure, Auto WB, No Flash. Also, hanging from the branch is a dead rabbit, lunch I would assume. By the way, anyone know what kind of eagle this is?
Great capture Richard. This is one wild looking bird...I have no clue? I guess we will wait for the experts to help us out. Tell you what...he looks like one of the characters from Star Wars...:D:cool:
Looks like a Harpy eagle. They are found in Central America, Costa Rica, Panama, etc.
They are so big that they can take a sloth out of a tree and fly away from it. There is an exhibit in Panama with video of the bird doing exactly that. And when we were hiking the Pipeline Trail there were signs warning about these eagles. They are very curious and could swoop down on hikers. Not a view that I would like to see.
that is one wild looking dude!!!! he looks like a photo shopped eagle! actually an osprey/cobra with feathers and beak cross. very cool. will have to check this guy out too!! thanks for sharing it, richard!!
