I should not have had the exposure compensation at -.33 but I had forgotten that I had it set that way for some previous photos. I know I reduce the strength of the flash for the fill flash, but I don't remember how much. I did the regular adjusting but had to do a little bit more than usual of contrast and quite a bit more than usual of unsharpmask, and then even a bit more around the eye. Is it too much? I am still having trouble with sharpness. I probably took a hundred images of this little guy, and had 3 which were relatively sharp.:(

This is not my favorite pose of my brother-in-law's little parrot, but it is just a bit sharper than the pose I like. So do you go with a bit sharper or with a pose you like a bit better?

Would love to hear your comments on this photo.

Cheryl, For me I think sharpness is the first thing you see when looking at a close-up.But that's my opinion-others may say diff. I do like your pose here-

    Hi Cheryl,
I like the close up pose. you have sharp details with good color rendition. The exposure is fine. What catches my eye is the high contrasting burst of light competing with your bird. you can tone the whites down a bit and you got yourself a "10"...

Gus, I did the shadow/highlight adjustment but still couldn't get rid of it completely. Is there a way to select an area and completely replace the color?

or how about just trying a different image??

Love the second posted Cheryl Cute pose and love the eye contact !!

For the first one remember you need some shutter speed to make them consistently sharp, your lens has IS but is not going to save you, not the current IS. taking the crop factor your effective focal length was just over two hundred !!! btw would keep the white out of the bg !!

    Hey Cheryl,
The second image is superb, love it to death, great eye contact and sharp details...well done...
On the first one, you can use the burn tool at 12% and give it two passes and see if it helps...

thanks, Jackie. After seeing that pose here, and noticing how much I (and others) liked it, I asked the owners to pose the bird that way for its photo. It took more work than I anticipated! lol But it is my favorite pose. I think I should have used more DOF, but didn't want the kitchen in the background.
