This shot is like a few others I've taken with my older 1D MKII camera in that it's came straight out of the camera already very saturated so I've taken the opportunity to go well overboard with more of the same plus I dropped the contrast to -6.

Another thing I find odd is that even though I used f/4 the spindly tree on the left is well within focus but so is the Bustard but the bird itself stands well back from the tree?

Shot was taken on the Central Arnhem Highway Northern Territory Australia

Richard - Love the sense of the bird in habitat that this image gives without overpowering the image. The well lighted plant to the right of the bird is great; drawing the viewer to the plant then the bird annd accenting the tropical habitat. I want the whole bird (feet and tail) and a bit of space below.

i too love your cropping to include the habitat in this image. The deep colors of the habitat, especially the deep blue, really highlight the subject and the plant in the foreground. I also like the sharp vine (?) to the left of the bird. I would like eye contact and the whole body of the bird, or at least some room for plants to cover its virtual legs/feet.

Lovely looking bird. I might have tried a vertical crop and used the two OOF trees as picture frames for the bird and fern. As mentioned the balance of the bird would have made it for me. Looks like atricky bird to get a photo of. good for you.

    Richard,

The surreal BG makes this a powerful image. I like the colors and the sharpness of the bird and flora on the left. I like it a lot.

    Cheers,

Like the habitat and the dark trunks contrasting with your bird. Would have been nice if you had been able to get the feet too! Great feel in the picture, somewhat menacing.

Impressive feel Richard !!! Sure wish you would have included the feet !!!!

Love the light and bg tones Unusual to say the least and appealing !!! It is actually strong enough to stand having the feet excludes since it looks deliberate vs clipped. Can't wait to see the next one !!!

btw if you can PM a last name or initial would be appreciated !!!! Will do the update !!
