Just let me start by saying that for the past few days, I've been having so much fun looking at so many threads here in BPN. I just love this place!
Now to the picture. Before I posted another gray heron but the title was blue heron. Some one corrected me and he was right. In Japanese it is called blue (ao) but I researched it and in fact it is gray. Sorry for that misunderstanding.
This file its been cropped a lot. Close 50%. My lens was stopped down to f/8 so the BG is not blurred enough! I didn't know better when I took it. Never the less I still like it. I think the head is a bit burn out too.
Please, if you have the time opinions are welcome coz even if it is too late for this shot I can apply your thoughts on future pictures. thank you so much.
Nikon D300 - (old) AF 300 f/4, AP f/8 at 1/640 sec, ISO 400. Tripod with only one leg extended as monopod.
I think f/8 was agood choice here as the water texture looks great. Exposure is good too...the head is not burnt at all (there is only an unfortunate shadow cast on the neck). The heron itself seems to be flying slightly away, but looks like it gave just enough of a head turn for you :-) Nice composition!
I like the details and color of the water. I agree regarding the shadow and wish the bird were flying toward you. Generally, wings up or down looks best. Maybe you have some other frames made in this series?
