I am a relatively novice but fanatical bird photographer. I realize I really need to upgrade my skills in regards to processing pictures. Currently I use a basic ACDSee package and feel comfortable with the basics of adjusting exposure,color etc. Can people recommend;
A) a good more advanced software package
B) a resource either on the internet or elsewhere where I can learn more
Kirk,
For Canon users I recommend , Breeze Browser Pro with Photoshop or Lightroom 2 and Photoshop.
For Nikon users i recommend, Nikon View NX(free)/Nikon Capture NX2 with Photoshop, or Lightroom 2 and Photoshop.
As for resources try our Digital Workflow Forum. We have some amazing digital workflow experts hanging out there.
PS Welcome to BPN and I will get your member number up tonight.
Kirk,
Photoshop is certainly a pinnacle of software. While expensive, you might see about enrolling in a community college course on photography and as a student be able to buy a student edition at much lower cost. Or teach a course at the college in something you are expert in and as faculty get the educational discount version (it is the same as full priced edition).
