Practice with a flash yesterday - got quite a few looking like they have cataracts!! Guess it needs to come off -camera.

Well this one looks just fine! Beautiful BG and nice tones throughout the image. You might selectively darken the branch just a bit and try giving the eye just a tweak of lightening. That ought to further bring out the great stare you're getting from him.

This is absolutely gorgeous Jeni. I love it as presented. Great detail obviously but the colours just seem to work so well together.

I'm interested in your flash settings and I'm curious as to why you used shutter priority?

    Cheers.

    Thanks guys.
Sean, I had been using a 430EX but had taken it off. Then I tried the camera's built in flash with different exp settings - the max ss I could get according to the manual was 1/250sec: if I set the mode to AV the camera would select the ss automatically between 30sec and 1\250sec so I had no control there.
Don't worry though, I've still got to figure out a lot of things and experiment!!;)

Jeni, this is superb...I like it very much...the bird is placed just right in frame. You have sharp details and goos color rendition I like the head angle and eye contact. The perch in my opinion adds the extra color punch to the image...well done...:)
