This one from last night. Love the water drops and slow movement. This was at 1/40 sec.

    Hope you like it.

Canon 40D, 500mm L @ f/4.5, ISO 1250, 1/40 sec, NO IS, Tripod, RAW, Slightly Cropped to help composition.

    Thank you!

Beautiful shot with the light on the water, the ripples, and the water droplets. I think I'd prefer a lack of motion blur in the one leg.

    Hello there!

To me, that's what gives the images some life, plus at 1/40 sec, nothing much I could have done. I rather have a little blur in a leg than no picture at all OR blur in the important parts of the bird like the head. However, is a matter of taste! ;)

    Thank you for your thoughts!

Wonderful silhouhette. I love the colors, ripples in the water, and the sense of motion coming from the blurred leg.

Oh, totally agreed on your points! Definitely great to have the head and body sharp, and it's a gorgeous shot as is...no question.

The blur on the leg? Given your circumstances and light you had to work with, my stated desire for a lack of motion blur is about as useful to you as people requesting a bird turn his head a little more in a certain direction, perch in a little better light, etc...

    ;)

But it is my personal preference!!

    Hi there,

I see your point, the only different is that "requesting" a better head turn is something everyone needs to learn how to capture and for the most part YOU have the choice of waiting for the perfect head angle. Luckily, I already learned that. In the other hand shooting at 1/40 sec is a whole different story and brings a lot of other issues with it, like "movement". Of course, you can always choose to pack and go home before sunset without an excellent image. I can't afford that! :D

However, that is changing with more and more new technology and higher ISO's!! ;)

    Thanks!

Beautiful silhouette, the ripples in the water are a nice added touch.
