    Bill,

    I like your comp for the background bloom and the textured stalks, and you have great tone without blowing out the oranges. For me, the OOF bloom in the LR detracts, since it hides the handing bud. Photographing through petals, leaves, etc, can bring some good results, but it seems to work best with the object you're shooting through much closer than the subject, and doesn't block a key part of the image. Nice idea to try though. Keep working the technique here with different front blooms.

    Bill,
    I'll second Bruce's comments. Also suggest holding a petal right in front of the lens for the "shoot through" effect - you have more control over placement of the color wash that way.

    I'll "third" them. It's a great try...just a bit too much OOF against the actual subject and it is a bit detracting. Try it again and let's see how you do!

    Nice attempt but I have to agree with the others and add a fourth. When I block out everything to the right and below the stem, the remaining portion looks great to me.
