This was taken last week, early in the morning, at Bolsa Chica Wetlands. It is cropped about 50%. For the first time I practiced using Lightroom's adjustment brush -- on the beak, the legs and feet. Amazing what the brush can do, but I'm far from competent with it yet. What do you think of the image? C & C, please . . .
HI Wendell Did well with exposure and in making the image before the bird got past you. Need to get them closer filling about 70 to 80 percent of the frame. Cropping a lot will always get you !!!
Always like seeing the wings either all the way up or down, mid strokes are not as attractive. Also need to be careful with focusing point placement, the eye is not sharp? Settings wise not sure why use Tv About the only reason for using is when controlling the flash. Here best to use manual or if you prefer Av.
Hi Wendell,
I like the capture, the bird is well placed in frame. Agree with Mr. Forns on the techs. You also might want to use some noise reduction in the background...looking forward to your next one...
Hi Wendell - agree with all of the above - have removed some of the BG noise and sharpened the eye - sometimes sharpening the eye can give the appearance that the whole image is actually sharper than what it is.
Looks like your point of focus was on the far wing tip.
Wendell you did really well to capture this. The exposure looks good, and good advice from Lance about sharpening the eye and good repost with the NR. Well done, and on the list for Xmas, longer glass?:)
Hi Lance:
Please tell me exactly how you corrected the eye (selected in Photoshop and used USM?) and the noise (selected the background and used a noise reduction tool?). Your corrections have made a big difference in my image.
Hi Alfred:
I'll try switching to Av . . .
Hi Gus & Jackie:
Thanks to all of you I've learned an awful lot in this one post. ( Put in a word for me with Santa, Jackie.)
Hi Wendell - yes selected the eye only and then applied USM - until it looked O.K.
Noise reduction - appled to the BG only with noise ninja (On a seperate layer of course). Lots of different ways to select only the bird - one of the easiest with this type image is SELECTIVE COLOUR.
:)
