Northern Harrier from Viera Wetlands, FL yesterday.

My first good image (one of three taken of this one) of a harrier at Viera even though I see them there all the time. Also made using my new Canon 50D which after its first outing I am very much impressed.

    Canon EOS 50D
    Firmware Version 1.0.3
    1/800 sec, f/4
    Exposure mode: Manual
    Metering mode: Evaluative
    ISO: 500
    EF600mm f/4L IS USM
    White balance: Cloudy

Lovely, Robert. Love the light, feather detail, eye contact and warm, pale BG. Only improvement would be if the bill tip were clear of the leading edge of the far wing.

Agree with everything Tony says but the beak doesn't bother me that much as long as it's visible.

A superb example of how pleasing a bird can be against a white sky. Gorgeous detail. This appears to be a male sub-adult?

Jeff, According to my guide that is what it is. Thanks for confirming.

Nicely done Robert. I was literally just about to post my harrier when I saw yours with an almost identical comment about getting your first good one at a place that you frequent.

Good for you, Robert. I see these guys all the time at Viera, but have yet to get a good one. Beautiful wing position and sharpness.
