The angle was a bit steep but I hope it works nonetheless. Greater(?) Yellowlegs photographed today at Shoreline Lake in Mountain View, CA.
Thanks for looking. JR

Very nice detail and color, I would crop this even tighter getting rid of the legs and the last quarter of the bird making this a tighter portrait.

Super sharp! I don't mind the inclusion of the legs, as they're a trademark of that type of bird. I might go for a bit of a saturation boost though.

A nice portrait with sharp detail. I like the original crop. Well done.
Nice work John!..very sharp, and nice close-up!...keep shooting!..grtz!
Another vote for the original, I love the compo there. Nice BG. MAy want to get rid of one of the catch lights.
I like both crops, with a slight edge to the original. Great light and excellent details. There is a "hot" streak on the belly that catches my eye...you could tone it down to match its' neighbouring feathers, and if you wish you could "fix" the tiny stray feather between the eye and back of head.
Thank you all for your kind feedback. Yes, the 400F5.6 can be supersharp at close distance.
Daniel, I've been wondering about the hot streak also. I checked a couple of times with a treshold adjustment layer in PS but there were no pixels higher than 252. Well, I should clarify that I tested it only with the master file but not the web version...
