This is the same species as your Ruddy Turnstone. They are mainly winter visitors to the UK with most birds nesting in Scandinavia. Unfortunately we do not often see them in their full breeding 'ruddy' plumage. The light was rather dull, as can be seen from the exposure, - a typical UK winter day! However this can often help with contrasting plumage detail, and you can always increase brightness in P'shop.

Nice low shooting angle giving you a nice smooth BG here, Melvin. Nice plumage detail and concentrated pose and I like the angle of the legs. You want to get your histogram as far to the right without clipping as possible as even though you can open things up in PS you run the risk of noise in the darker areas if your exposure is insufficient.
Hi Melvin! Lovely clean image and I like the foraging pose with that open bill. Soft light and good exposure control. I agree that the face could use a little selective sharpening. Very nice image.
Thanks for your comments - the head has slight subject movement due to the fact that the shutter speed was not sufficient to stop the feeding action of the bird. I will certainly use a selective sharpening of that area, as you have suggested.
