    Hi,

Large numbers of these have entered the UK recently. The light was far from ideal however, having never seen a Waxwing before I decided to take the camera and record an image.

    Canon 1DMK3, 500mm 1.4X, f6.3, 1/400, tripod mounted

    C&C welcome

    Thanks for looking

Congrats on the capture of a new species. Light was indeed strong, but handled well. I might go down -1/3EV as his flank seems a bit bright. White spots on the wings look hot...easy to do on these guys. Very nice image though.

I like the pose, details and setting but wish for a lower angle. Could you have moved back a few steps?

I agree with Axel about steping back a bit, but I don't see how the light is less than ideal, IMO it looks very nice lighten. Congratulatiions!

It's always great to get a new species! Very good head angle and nice sharp detail. The berries add color and interest. The stalk behind the bird is somewhat distracting.

    Hi all,

    Thanks for you comments.

I couldn't go back any further on this particular side of the tree but I do have a plan ! The birds have naturally started to eat from the tops of the tree and each day they are having to go lower down for the berries. The lowest branches still have plenty of fruit which would give me a better angle. Weather permitting I will return tomorrow and see how much fruit and how many birds are left.

    Thanks for your interest.

    Austin
