    Default Fluffy White Morph

This is my first post here. It is hard shooting white birds and would like some suggestions please. This was taken with a 400mm lens on a Nikon D80 at 400mm. 1/2500 sec 0.0 exp comp, exp and white balance auto. I had to lighten it some in photoshop and a little sharpening. The lens is a little soft at 400mm. Thanks in advance, Judy Hogan

Hello Judy, I'll let the experts give you advice I'll just say what I see- I think you have a nice composition and a good HA.
I also like whats going on w/ the feathers- I see some noise in BG -but the BG colors are gorgeous!

    Big Warm Welcome Judy !!!!

I like the pose, fluff and sharpness. Not sure how you needed to lighten in PS with the 0 comp for a bird in full sun. You can see the light reflecting straight up at the bird. Any lightening of the image will increase noise, best to check histogram and get them perfect. The water also looks a little funky not sure if it had some extra saturation.

If you are able to make a good exposure the time need in PS will be minimal. I normally spend less than two minutes for my posted images !! Any questions yo have fire away and we will be glad to help Also post/critique lots of images which is the fastest way to improvement !!! Looking forward to many more !!

Hi - and welcome to BPN - its a great place.

Tip #1 - Soft light - white birds become so much easier to shoot in nice soft light.

Tip #2 - turn on your over exposure blinkies

    Tip # 3 - Check your histogram

Tip #4 - get Arties "Art of Bird Photograpp II"

Tip #5- get Robert O'Tooles APTATS CD

P.S. not bad for a frst post.

    looking forward to seeing more.

    :)

    Hi Judy,
I like the base composition. very good advise given by Mr. Forns and Mr. Peters. The only thing I might add is the noise in the background...looking forward to your next capture...
