This bird was rather dark and I brought out what I could with S/H

1/2000, f/5.6, -.33EV, ISO 320 Early AM in the shade
I couldnt figure why the crab was so far back. It eventually disappeared in the last images.

Lovely BG and the crab and water drop on the beak are nice. Crab does look to be far back - almost looks as though it has caught the bird with one nipper. This scenario called for + rather than - exposure compensation which is why you needed to lighten it. I would clone out the bright reflections from the flash on the water drops in the plumage and there looks to be some patching work bottom left.

    Hi Tony
Thanks for looking and your thoughts.
Here is my input back to you. Nothing done patch wise botton left. I did patch out some sticks in the light area on the birds right. Probably should have worked on the left though. I rather like the bright flash highlight in the water droplets on back. Flash was low on batteries as I have other images of this bird correctly exposed with these settings.
    Thanks again

Thanks for the additional info, Bill. Makes sense then to under-expose the BG a bit if the flash is giving you enough for the subject. Pity the flash didn't give you the light you needed for this shot. If you like the bright drops keep them - nothing is right or wrong. Critique is only an opinion to consider.

It's all about the crab for me...I think it would have made a great silhouette...i would also give it a little more room on the right side....nate

Here is the bird lightened quicky (don't like it 100%) and the crab in silhouette.
