    Testing testing.

D300 200-400@ 200 on tripod. Manual exposure mode, no flash. ISO 1600 f4 1/60 sec.

Cropped a bit. Ran through Neat Image.

Lucky me, for 1/60 sec the chickadee did not move even one feather :D

What do you think? What the bloody hack was I thinking? :p

    Thanks !

Hi Desmond - Like the HA, the 1/60 th certainly hasnt helped you much here :) The bright specualr highlights in the BG tend to grab all of my attention.
Not sure about all the negative space either :)

Hi Desmond ....... I have no clue :)

Actually with less tree and slightly brighter bird it would be a very nice image !!!!

Apparently, this photo does not look like a portrait as we know it ;)

Lance, so you did see the background, eh? :D Actually, the bird is sharp despite 1/60 sec. I can see that when viewed @100%.

Denise, you saw the chickadee, too :)

Al, thank you for the suggestion !

    Hi Desmond,
I like the capture. A few things need to be addressed...:Dthe perch over powers the little guy, the lens flair is distracting and takes all the attention from your main subject, and the bird is not sharp. I modified your base image to illustrate these points. I blurred the background, eliminating the ghost flares, I then liquefied it , cropped from the top, and from the left of the frame to make the perch smaller in some what of a proportion to the bird. I selective sharpened the eyes and feathers, boosted saturation and contrast and darkened the background just a tad ...see if this presents better to you...
