Wheeler, I love the bird and the main branch but I'm not loving the BG. The stick that's poking in from the top center frame is distracting to me as is all the heavy light/dark spots. Have you tried any blurring or playing with the BG to tone it down at all?

I do like the tones you have going here. It appears to be more of a sepia than a B&W conversion. Is that right?

I'm with Julie. Play around with the background by adding a blur layer. I like the tones.

    Jules-
Odd, I didn't even see that branch you mentioned, but I guess I can see your point and I can easily remove it. The BG is a troublesome problem, as I tried to blur it but it looked as poorly as the image as presented. I don't really know how to perform the adding of a blue layer as suggested by Michael. If you could discribe what you had in mind I would be more than happy to try it. Yes the tones is a sepia more than a Black and White. Thanks all for your suggestions and I will try them and re-submit.

Even when converted the image needs a good bg and sharpness !!!! Not sure if its the crop or focus but looks a little fuzzy. The one leaf merging with the beak sort of bugs me !! I do like B&W a lot but not a big fan of birds in this medium !!!

If you try another would look for something you can get a wide range of tones with good contrast, not easy picking for the conversions but the more you do the easier it will get !!! Looking forward to the next one !!!!
