One sees quite a few Sanderling in winter plumage on this site but here is one in breeding plumage. I came across four of them during the summer a few miles from where I live and not knowing them in summer plumage thought I had come across Red Necked Stint which would have been very rare in Ireland. I raced home to get the birdguide out to find they were Sanderling. 1d2n ef400 f5.6
Nice catch, Craig. He looks very serious with that lump of sand on his bill. A lower shooting angle and a bit of fill flash may have been useful here as it seems the main light source is from behind the bird. As it stands I would crop a bit tighter and clean some of the dark spots from the BG if you're happy with that.
This could go a lot lighter with more contrast and a crop from the bottom. Nice full breeding plumage; what month?
