    Default Rough-legged hawk, juvy

Rough-legged hawk, dark morph juvenile. Taken Sunday - 25mph winds in wide open field.

I love these wintering visitors from the arctic. Their hunting style of hovering in place and flapping wings seemingly makes an easier photo target, that is if they are not facing away. Self-critique:wish the head was separated from body.

Great shot - love the positions of the primaries and the feel that it is hanging there on the wind. Possibly a bit centred in the frame?

    Jeff,
I like the shot. I am ok with the placement. I like the pose. What was the shutter speed?
    Cheers,

I think yor comp is fine, and love the show of the outstretched wings. Well captured Jeff.

Lovely pose and detail. The head is where it needs to be for hunting ;)

Love the kiting pose and the underwing detail. Wish only for a bit more detail on the belly.
