I love Northern Pintails and was thrilled that this one not only let itself drift towards my position but also that it opened its eye just a tiny bit at the right moment. Hope you like it.

    Thanks, JR

Nice resting pose John. Pretty much parallel to the sensor plane! More room all around would be great, particularly at the tail tip.

It's a dilemma I face when posting ... I want to show the detail I managed to achieve but don't want to crop too close ... I generally crop close anyway :)

Nice image John, details, exposure and reflection.

Great shot with lots of detail and beautiful reflection...i would add a little more space to the crop...especially to the right side of the frame....nate

I find the multiple eyes in the reflection a bit distracting, and am not sure what it is behind the bird's neck?

    John,
This is different and interesting. I agree with the space suggestions. Nice pose. Lots of details in the image.

It is IMO too tight in the frame, but other than that this is just one stunning shot! Light, pose, detail and colours are just terrififc! Congratulaitons!

Just beautiful, John. I like tight crops but feel that this needs just a little more space front and back. I think a pano type crop would work and it would be easy to add canvas if you don't have it on the original. Just love the light and feather details and that little peek from the eye is crucial.

Lovely feather detail, and well timed to capture the open eye John. The calmness of the water is just perfect to show off the reflection. I agree with the others on having more space. Still a great image and well done.

Thank you all for the kind feedback. Yes, it is tight but I liked it nonetheless as it has this in-your-face quality, almost like a landscape. Well, maybe I am spinning it too much...

    Best, JR

I like the composition a lot but would love to see a little more room around the bird. Great pose, sharpness and light. very well done John!
