From my first day with my 40D late this summer. Just sold the 40D after only 4 months and bought a 50D. My wife doesn't seem to understand my "need" to continually update equipment.
;)
Had fun with the 40D while it lasted though. Canon 40D, 400 5.6L, ISO 400, 1/320, f7.1, 430EX @ -1 2/3rds. Strong sidelight...wouldn't have much detail on the body and face without flash to lessen the contrast.

Fine job with this beautiful sparrow Terry! The LeConte's are one of my favorites. The fill flash was just what was needed to balance the light and show tremendous details in the feathers. I do wish for a slightly different head angle to provide stronger eye contact, but that is not always easy to capture. I've enjoyed your website for some time now and it's great to have you here at BPN. :)
Judging from where the ambient light is comming, the fill flash is a must. I like this sparrow as well, I need to get an image of one. As for the upgrading of equipment; it's a sickness ;-)

Hey.....glad to see you here. Oh, sweet.......you don't know how badly I want that bird!!!!! What a wonderful image. He's out in the open and yet there is plenty of habitat for BG.....true to form for this one!!! Well done.
