I certainly do not know what happened but tried to post this early this morning, but o.k.
Taken at the Green Cay Wetlands with a Canon MK-II at 100 ISO at f/8 and 1/500th of a sec. with a 1.4 extender =-700MM with a + 0.7 exp comp. And as usual all comments and visits are very appreciated and welcome.

Very nice pose, Bill. We need a bit more contrsat, or use Slective Color and add a couple of points of black to the Neutrals.

Head angle police would get ya ;)

    Hi Bill,

I have to agree with Fab. I also think the image looks soft.

Some softness and a slight head angle issue as noted earlier, but really a fun pose with the raised foot. It looks like this guy will probably molt into adult plumage soon...not the typically (very streaky) juvenile plumage.

Please tell me what is wrong with the head angle, thank you Fab.

Sorry for not being more specific in my response Bill. As far as the head angle there isn't strong eye contact because the heron is looking slightly away from the photographer (head tilted slightly back in the image). In one sense it's a minor detail, but in many cases it can really have a powerful impact on the overall feel of the image. When I'm photographing a subject like this I might take a dozen or more images and weed it down to just 1 or 2 keepers based upon the head angles that were captured.

Love the foot off the ground. I feel another round of USM and you will see the results.

Hi Bill, Arties suggestion is that the tip of the bill is in the same plane as the eye - i.e a small turn toward the camera from strictly parallel to the plane of the image sensor.

I'm assuming that USM is insharp mask James and if correct what are some of the parameters you use for this action when you do it, thank you all for your help.
