Nice light, Like the poe and HA - would consider cropping more from the bottom as tends to lok like reflection is decapitated.

Nice portrait of this species with ruffling action captured. Beautiful light as well! Agree with Lance about reflection. What a dainty bill Mew Gulls have.

I like the bird's ruffled pose. I'm personally finding the reflective barring on the gull distracting. Image also looks like it may have been originally underexposed as there is noticeable colour noise - similar to that when we fix underexposure. I love how tiny this gull specie's bill is!

Thanks for your comments. I normally don't pay much attention to Gulls as they mostly look all the same to me. But this one surely stood out as it was much more tern-like. First time that I saw Mew Gulls. Nice bird!

As for the critique, I agree re cropping from the bottom and the reflections being a distraction. I actually didn't do anything to the exposure as the levels histogram was pretty much centered with tails towards the black and white ends. Where do you see color noise? I applied Noise Ninja to the background.

    Thanks, JR

    Hi John,

If you look closely on the gull's back/shoulder you can see some greenish and pinkish sprinkling...this is colour noise. In Noise Ninja there is also an option to help correct colour noise like this (as opposed to "luminance" noise that some often compare as "grain" from the film days.)
