    Default Lesser Scaup

This species usually swims in rafts out a couple of hundred yards out into the Ottawa River, but this gal has been hanging out at a local pond lately...but she is very hard to approach. A cold front moved in overnight but I decided to brave the brutally cold winds and snow showers to try my luck...again. I hid between a few large boulders in an area I have seen her hang out at and waited over 2.5 hours for her to finally come in my way close enough for decent photo ops. Once she did come in she stayed for about 30 minutes and provided plenty of poses.:)

Canon 40D + 100-400L @400mm, aperture priority, eval metering, 1/320s., f/6.3, ISO 640, +1.3 EC, handheld, basically full-frame (cropped out the corners of a 1.3 degree image rotation)

Very nice Dan! It was bitterly cold today so your patience really paid off.

I love the eye contact, low angle and the wing spread.

Looking straight at you, what more can you ask. Well done Daniel.
