    Default More activity at Viera

Well this morning was cool and crispy and the kingfishers were all over the place, but for once they decided to light on a palm that is very close to the road. It is in the first cell as you drive in. We saw also two pairs of bald eagles and several pairs of caracara, oh and also the least bitterns seems to be making an appearance again. This one taken with the D300, Nikon 500 F4 with 1.4tc, f8, 1/1000. Great it was a female also!!!:D All C&C welcomed as always.

This is lovely Nancy. The lighting, the detail in the bird, and especially the composition...all top notch.

Thanks so much Terry! It is my first REAL photo of this species, so I am real happy!! On top of that it was my first click of the day.

Beautiful image Nancy. I love the way the tufts on the palm perch echo the crest on the head. I would crop a little off the bottom (just above your copyright) to eliminate the leaves and keep the dark line on the right of the perch intact. I just love kingfishers and this is a beauty.

Great light, details, BG and it is always great to get a good image of this skittish species. Composition works for me, too.

Thanks Judy, Tony and Axel! I will give that suggested crop, Tony, a go. And yes, Axel, finally!!! This species is soooooo skittish! I thought I would never get one.

SO ahppy to hear that, Nancy, I was sad to hear it was slow, since Viera is one of my fav locations. Good light. pose and head turn.

Everything works nicely here Nacy...congrats! I would also crop to just above the leaves at bottom of perch as they don't add much to the image. As far as kingfishers go it will be difficult for you to top this!! :-)

Absolutely stunning light, and Im going with Tony on taking a bit from the bottom. She really stands out against your wonderful OOF BG. Well captured Nancy.
