I was lucky to get this guy as it took off as we approached it with the boat. This is Africa's largest kingfisher.

Well done, Chris. Lovely flight shot with the light showing the male plumage beautifully. Whites on the leading edge of the wing look a little hot but probably OK in your unsharpened TIFF. Small pity about the moulted centre tail feather. I will have to make a plan to join one of your trips!!!

Well done Chris. Great detail where you need it, plus a bit of motion blur in the wingtip gives a nice feel to the shot.

Great find and image, this kingfisher does look huge. Do you know how big it is? I like the details, BG and sense of motion and might increase the color temperature slightly. The whites of the wings have a slight blue cast on my monitor.

Beautiful capture Chris especially handholding a 500mm on a boat!

Chris, this is an amazing capture. Superb flight pose and beautiful detail. The whites are hot, and I think reducing the contrast on just the bird would improve the image.

Thanks for the comments guys. Body length is around 45cm (18 inches) and it ways around 365g . I'd say its about the same size as the Australian Kookaburra.

This guy really pops from the BG Chris, and lovely light cast on the head and eye. Well captured Chris.
