I did my masters research on this species over 30 years ago, so I have a soft spot for them! This bird is in its winter or "Basic" plumage. Note the dark flecking around the head. Adults have a nice yellow bill even in winter.

This bird was looking for handouts at a local pond in Sackville, NB.

I lightly cropped, ran NR on BG and colour-corrected in LAB mode with Curves attempting to get whites close to 0,0.

This looks very good. I like the composition, exposure control, details and BG. Maybe a tad more saturation?

Lovely portrait, John. I like the way the colours of the bill, iris and BG work together.

Excellent exposure on the whites, and nice and sharp. Great image John.
