    Default Snowy Owl Liftoff

    Attached Images Attached Images

Taken on the road to Cape Race Newfoundland last Friday. The closest and most cooperative of more than 20 snowy's along the road that day.
    Sony a900, sigma 500mm f4.5 lens at f 6.3, iso 200, 1/2000 s.

As I was photographing this owl sitting on the rock in the picture it took off and I missed the left wing tip. I am looking for help with possible reconstruction the missing wing tip. I have Artie's APATS but his example of replacing a missing wing tip on the eagle has the eagle facing the photographer and both wings are in the same position and have the same lighting. I don't know if anything can be done with my image but would appreciate any help.

    Thanks

    Gene

I can't help either, but I can see why you like to try to "save" this image. It is terrific except for the missing wing tip. BTW there is a funny dot between the tail and the wing above; probably left over from some pp work.
Cape Spear and Cape Race sure are great places for Snowy Owls in the winter.

Wish I could help, Gene, but its not in my bag of tricks. Beautiful capture and great exposure.

Thanks Gail, this just isn't my day. I synched a dust spot removal across one too many images in Lightroom and then missed it on this image.

here is one without the dust spot error. Still hoping someone can tell me if/how to create a wing tip.

Excellent capture Gene !!! If you expect action do give yourself a little margin for error and don't go real tight !!!

The wing can be reconstructed but it is no easy task since you need to make parts up or use form another bird. Robert O'toole has a CD for reconstructing but does not totally apply for this image. This is an excellent image and you could send it to Robert for the repair !! Would try to make one (I'm sure you will be able to) but plan B is sending it in !!! I like it a lot !!!
