The bird looks wonderfully sharp, good position, nice crop and the smooth bg is very cool.
This is kind of an inverse light image: the bird is in shadow and the bg is in the light. I think this inversion of the usual use of light draws the viewer's eye away from the bird and to the bg - and you want just the reverse. Don't know if this is "fixable" in PS.
    Cheers

Gail, I saw that bit of light on that branch toward the evening and drove 20 miles each day for 3 weeks in hopes that a bird would land on that branch at that particular time so I could catch that light for my BG.

hi denise! i think in this case some flash with the better beamer would have helped you out. it would have given you more light on the bird and maybe darkened the bg a little, which i think would have not hurt you. it's not a problem though. you can still lighten the bird a little.

bird looks sharp with nice detail and the eye is great! it's just seems a little big in the frame to me.

that's a lot of driving!! glad it paid off for you!!!!

When I look at this photo close, I can see the bird and the details fine. When I look only at the thumbnail, certainly the bright, beautifully colored background got my attention. But that also means because this photo is so different from the norm, that it got my attention. And may be other people's too ;) Certainly a bit more fill flash could help the viewer see the bird better. But if your intention is to make a different image than the norm, then you may not want to have a lot of it.

I think the background is beautiful. The bird is kind of darker than the usuals but the details are still showing well. If this were mind, I would not hesitate to hang it on my wall :)

    But it's just me :D:D

Killer BG, Denise and sharp details; I think I would like just a touch of light on the head/eye and foremost breast, then falling completely away at the sides.

    Lady Denise,
I like it as presented. Beautiful colors, sharp details good head angle, nice diagonal perch and a lovely multi-colored background...well done. If you like you can dodge at 3% on the blue portions of the body and around the eye area. and selective sharpen the eye at 2% intensity...good show...

Great thread !!! The key here would have been the fill flash !!! Besides benefiting the body in general it will place a nice catch light. The re post is better but the bird is on the light side ( you are right !!! btw might also want to give a little more room !!!

    Hi denise:

Nice shot, only nit I go along with is that the bird needs a bit more room. I like your original as it is.

Keep in mind that everytime you rework the original jpg., you will lose a bit. Many times I see a couple of reworks for a sharp eye, and see a very slight detefriation in the quality of the overall from the original.

    A personal opinion
