Juvenile brown pelican lifting off. I wish I had more room around the bird but this is full frame (minus a touch off the top to change the aspect ratio). I could probably clone the right side but I'm not sure I would be able to pull off adding more on the bottom with the splash and all.

I like the take-off pose and eye contact. Too bad you don't have more room. You could add canvas but this might be some work since the BG is not even. I would raise the color temperature since I see a slight blue cast on my monitor.
Excellent self-critique and very sharp. In addition, the head is turned ever so slightly away from you and the light if from the right. You handled the latter quite well.
